As news of Haiti’s devastation pours in, the scale of destruction from Tuesday’s earthquake is truly horrifying. Port-au-Prince, the capital city and home to more than 2 million people, lies in ruins.
Latest reports site between 45,000 and 5o,000 people have been killed and as many as 3 million people injured or made homeless.
As the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, Haiti is especially unprepared to cope with a disaster of this proportion. The next few days will be critical, as relief organizations seek to help hundreds of thousands of displaced families.
The American Red Cross, World Vision, Doctors Without Borders and the International Rescue Committee are working to bring emergency medical relief and humanitarian assistance to areas that were worst hit by the disaster but they need your help now.
