The City of Ottumwa’s seventh deer season for bow hunters began on September 10, 2011 and recently concluded on January 29, 2012. During the season, thirty-six (36) hunters registered with the police department to participate in the program. Fifty-eight (58) does, four (4) bucks, and four (4) button bucks for a total of sixty-six (66) deer were harvested during the four month season. Last year, twenty-eight (28) hunters registered with forty-eight (48) deer harvested. Two (2) hunters qualified for buck tags for next year’s season. The deer hunting program was started in the fall of 2005 as a means to reduce the deer population in Ottumwa. Since then, a total of 612 deer have been harvested from within the city limits through the program. The start of the City’s 2012/2013 deer season for bow hunters will be announced next summer.

FOX has renewed KITCHEN NIGHTMARES for a fifth season, ordering 16 new episodes of the series, it was announced today by Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “It’s great to be back for a fifth season…who knew there were that many nightmares to be had?!” said series star and executive producer Gordon Ramsay. Throughout the show’s run, Chef Gordon Ramsay has travelled to 54 cities around the country offering restaurants on the brink of closure some much-needed guidance and, more often than not, a healthy dose of tough love. For many establishments, Chef Ramsay’s inimitable style and unique brand of delivery is difficult to swallow. With the economy hitting the restaurant business especially hard, these restaurateurs are looking to Chef Ramsay to wake them up from their own KITCHEN NIGHTMARES. Tune in tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 3 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), for an all-new episode featuring Chef Ramsay’s visit to Atlanta, GA, to help the owners of contemporary American restaurant Park’s Edge refresh their menu and service. Although the owners of Park’s Edge take pride in their diverse menu and innovative dining experience, Chef Ramsay is shocked by the restaurant’s lack of cohesiveness in the kitchen, inattentive service and [...]

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Expanded capabilities recently installed in the Ophelia Parrish Performance Hall are giving the Truman State University Music Department the ability to reach a worldwide audience and have made the school an innovator among Missouri universities. At 8 p.m. Feb. 4, the Music Department will live-stream a performance by the University Orchestra. This is the second time a concert will be streamed from Ophelia Parrish Performance Hall. In December, a small number of parents, alumni, prospective students and friends of the University were invited to watch the Wind Symphony I concert. Viewers from as far away as Japan were able to see the show. Live-streaming video and audio of concerts in the performance hall are now available after three years of collaboration between Truman IT Services and music faculty members. The concept of streaming concerts from Ophelia Parrish is a natural progression of the facility’s capabilities. When it was renovated in 2003, Ophelia Parrish was designed with a recording area. While video was not originally part of the plan, by adding that feature the Music Department now has the ability to document and assess student performances in addition to streaming concerts to a much wider audience than the [...]

Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) recognizes February as Teen Dating Violence Prevention and Awareness Month. This month aims to bring attention to the rise of teen dating violence and what communities can do to prevent and end it. On February 2, 2012, at 2:15 pm, there will be a formal proclamation sign by Governor Brandstad at the Capital in Des Moines, Iowa. ICADV has invited Iowa teens to participate in this event. Additionally, ICADV is coordinating a video contest called “Let Your Voice be Heard,” for Iowa teens ranging 13-18 years, to engage them in promoting healthy relationships. Clow Valve of Oskaloosa, Target, Papa Murphy’s, and Family Video, have all partnered with ICADV by donating cash prizes to help make this contest possible. Females between the ages of 16 and 24 are more likely to be victims of intimate partner violence than any other age group, experiencing abuse almost three times more than the national average. Two-thirds of teenaged victims do not report the abuse to anyone. The effects of abuse can be long-lasting. Abusive teens are likely to continue violent and intimidating behavior in future relationships. Teen dating violence is a devastating reality in our schools and communities; [...]
