SPENCER, Ia – Another Iowa soldier will be laid to rest this Thursday.
Spc. Christopher Opat, 29 of Lime Springs, will be remembered and honored at a funeral mass at the Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco. Burial is planned for Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Elma.
Opat died Tuesday in Baquah, Iraq, from injuries in a noncombat incident. Military officials have launched an investigation.
