FAIRFIELD, Ia -- International recording artist Michael Londra brings his summer concert tour to the Midwest with a performance at the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts in Fairfield, Iowa, on Sunday, July 18, at 7:30 pm.
Since his “Riverdance” days, Londra has continued to prove himself a gifted performer, with unerringly true Celtic connections. He recorded a solo album, Celt, released in 2005, and contributed to the 2009 release Arias, a compilation CD that also features Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman and Luciano Pavorotti. In November 2009, he released a collection of Celtic holiday music, Beyond the Star.
The Irish Emigrant newspaper described Londra’s interpretation of the classic tune “Danny Boy” as, “one of the best recordings ever.” The video featuring Londra’s recording has been viewed more than two million times on YouTube. A recent tour of China earned him the moniker “Man Enya.”
A native of Wexford, the singing capital of Ireland, Londra will perform both original and traditional songs during his summer concerts. He will be accompanied by a four-piece Irish band and will feature world class Irish dancers. .
“Where else can you sob your heart out and do a jig on the same night? Good music, no matter how sad, should bring a smile to your heart,” says Londra. “Irish music, Celtic music, does that and I hope to bring that feeling to my Iowa audiences this summer.”
The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center is Iowa’s most prestigious musical theatre and convention complex, positioned across from the historic Jefferson County Courthouse and one block north of Fairfield’s beautiful Central Park. Because no seat in the Sondheim Center is further than 90 feet from stage, audiences have an unusual intimacy with the performers.
Tickets for the July 18 Fairfield concert may be purchased at www.fairfieldacc.com, the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center box office, or by calling (641) 472-ARTS (2787).
