“Save Picwick Elementary” Facebook Page Approaches 600 Fans!

March 2, 2010
By Staff Writer

Parents in the Pickwick elementary school district have taken to the internet to get the word out about impending budget cuts in their local school district. One day after the Ottumwa Community School District’s work session where closing Pickwick elementary was discussed as a possible cost saving initiative for the 2010-2011 school year, parents in the Pickwick district launched a Facebook fan page called “Save Pickwick Elementary”. In the week that followed the page has generated quite a stir with over 580 people becoming fans of the page and sharing their thoughts on another school closing in Ottumwa.

Topics on the page include everything from other cost saving ideas for the district, information on contacting local and national elected leaders and general comments, concerns from parents and family members of Pickwick students and questions from the parents in other districts about how closing Pickwick will effect their class sizes and property values.

I couldn’t find a direct link to their Facebook page, but this one works Save Pickwick Elementary
