Annual Fall Dinner

Free Flu Clinic
Adair County Health Department annouces the opening day of their annual free influenza clinic- Thursday, September 9th from 9am until 1:30pm at The Crossing Church on Shepard Ave. This is drive-up immunization only and for ages 18 years and older. Those who are insured by Medicare/Medicaid, please bring your information. Also, please wear short sleeved shirt to receive your vaccination in your arm.
YOU SHOULD NOT RECEIVE THE VACCINATION IF:
1) you have had a severe reaction after receiving the vaccination in the past.
2) you have experienced breathing problems or have an allergy to eggs.
3) you are moderately or severely ill (such as fever)
4) you have fainted after vaccine

Sac and Fox Lapidary Club 15th Annual Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show at the Fairfield Convention Center
FAIRFIELD, Ia – The Sac and Fox Lapidary Club will host the 15th Annual Gem, Mineral and Fossil Show, September 11 – 12 at the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center themed “A Pirate’s Treasure Chest of Gems.” The Show will be held Saturday, September 11 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 12 from 10 p.m. – 5 p.m.
The event will showcase the lapidary and rock collecting hobby of the Sac and Fox Lapidary Club members and offer the general public to acquire gemstones, unique jewelry, mineral specimens, fossils as well as equipment and products related to the hobby.
Dealers from Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa will feature handcrafted and custom made jewelry, gemstones, opal, pearls, rough rock, fossils, equipment and findings available for purchase.
The show will contain educational displays, plus an unusual collection of books on nature, geology, earth sciences and minerals. An emphasis will be placed on gems with a special exhibit on dinosaurs in the display area.
Don Johnson, “Fossil Guy” from the University of Iowa, and the ‘Ol Glory Hole Mine, The Sac & Fox Gem Creek , the winning Wheel, microscopes for rock viewing, silent auction and grab bags will also be available for the public. Visitors to the show will find a wide variety of articles and art objects made from gemstone materials.
At the show, fine specimens of various mineral crystals and cut gemstones will be available for purchase and dealers will have gold and silver jewelry set with cabochons and faceted stones. Dealers will feature a wide selection of beads, geodes, Iowa’s state rock, and fossils, many from Iowa.
The silent auction will feature quality and unusual collector items; an excellent opportunity to pick up home decorations, quality jewelry, mineral specimens, rock slabs, polishing equipment, beads and rough material.
The show will again offer special educational materials for art and science teachers as resources in their classroom instruction on the earth sciences. The two day show will have hourly door prizes with two grand prizes.
